Pitlochry & the surrounding area
Pitlochry offers a good selection of excellent pubs, restaurants and a range of interesting local shops.
We are also home to The Pitlochry Festival Theatre or the ‘Theatre in the Hills’ which has an international reputation for the high quality and range of its productions. It draws over 100,000 visitors from throughout the UK and abroad every year to enjoy a unique schedule of shows that allows visitors to see a different show every night of the week. January through February sees the return of the 'Winter Words'. There is also a fine restaurant with stunning views across the River Tummel to Ben Vrackie, and a coffee bar which is open for refreshment all day.
You can go walking, golfing and fishing or just enjoy local attractions such as the famous salmon ladder at the Dam, Loch Faskally, which is home to the Enchanted Forest and of course our local whisky distilleries:-
Edradour acclaimed as Scotland's smallest, with a team of just three maltsmen, it also offers visitors a fascinating tour and a wee dram (free) and has a gift shop, and Blair Atholl – home of Bells Whisky which was founded in 1798, this is one of Scotland's oldest distilleries. The visitor centre tours (admission charge) include a ten-minute video presentation and explanation of the major stages in the distilling process; children under eight are not encouraged to take the tour.
The Heathergem Factory near the Tourist Office is the compact factory which produces a range of jewellery and other items with pressed coloured heather. It's a fascinating process, unique to Pitlochry, and the shop has a selection of gifts on sale.
Blair Castle, one of Scotland's most famous attractions which has been home to the Dukes of Atholl for over 700 years. and the famous House of Bruar are only a short drive away.
When you visit Scotland, Pitlochry is conveniently situated for touring the glorious countryside of Perthshire, Royal Deeside, Speyside and beyond. It is only about 1¼ hours drive to either Edinburgh or Glasgow and only slightly more to Inverness or, take it easy and go by train for the day. Perth and St Andrews are also within easy reach.
This is an ideal base with lots to do for both for those who like to relax and take things easy, and those who enjoy outdoor activities.
